The execution of the design engineering stages, which time has made near perfect, is carried out with mathematical precision: the works progress is no hit and miss affair, and each step from one stage to the next has been optimized. The chassis feasibility is developed during the set-up of the structure architecture. This step is the focal point of the car manufacture design. It is here that the shapes masterminded by the creative people are thoroughly tested with regards to implementation, cost analysis and technological feasibility.

Starting from the feasibility study, on a step by step basis, the details of the chassis and the interior design are defined. When the smooth surfaces of the external shape replaces the still imperfect molding of the physical model, the project passes form the feasibility study stage to the final design stage. At this point a Committee decides on the implementation of possible modifications in relation to the time frame and project costs. Each stage must be validated in relation to the structural analysis. Using state-of-the–art equipment the engineers can simulate, with a high degree of approximation, the dynamic phenomenon of a crash or torsion, the degree of soundproofing and in order to check compliancy with a client’s requests in terms of performance and parameters for soundproofing and vehicle safety.

The mechanical design starts in parallel with the initial project: all the mechanical components are developed in-house with the exception of the engine, which are not competence of Italdesign-Giugiaro, although the installation and the motion transmission interface of the engine are included.

The last step of design engineering is the systemization of the electric and electronic equipment and the plan of the tables and the relating diagrams.
The Technological Feasibility and Methods Department provides full time assistance throughout the design process; the Department examines the compatibility with the production methods and equipment used in the Client plant and handles the drafting of the method drawings, the deep-drawing studies, the moulds and the assembly and soldering equipment.
