A division of Industrial Design, called Giugiaro Design (www.giugiarodesign.it), has been developed within the Group; since 1981 this division has provided services to numerous companies operating in manufacturing sectors different from the automotive sector. The services include style research (creativity, the construction of models and prototypes, feasibility studies) and design in line with the criterion of clearly identifiable functionality applied to industrial manufacture whether a means of transport or a consumer product.
Each project is managed systematically and the work is divided into several stages: market research, design, feasibility studies, rendering, planning, model and prototype construction and communication (including product branding, packaging and launching).
Giugiaro Design has worked with prominent Italian and international brands in several industrial sectors: cameras (Nikon), telephony systems (Telecom Italia, Swatch), household appliances (Merloni), electrotechnics (Siemens), information technology (Apple), watch-making (Seiko), interior design (Cinova, Del Tongo, Fiam), cosmetics (LOreal, Shiseido), television (Rai, Telepiù now Sky).
The transport sector is particularly significant and the projects are managed by the operative unit Transport: production includes motorcycles and four-wheel cycles (the Be UP Ligier/Giugiaro Design, a new concept of urban vehicle), airplane interiors and boats. Giugiaro Design has also developed railroad projects and designed the ETR 460 Pendolino, the ETR 470 Cisalpino for FS (the Italian railways) and the S220 for VR (the Finnish Railways) in addition to the light underground railway without a conductor of Copenhagen which was built together with Ansaldo Breda for the Danish company Ørestadsselskabet.
